The present article seeks to shed light on the early process of manuscript production and the urgency with which scholars copied and translated religious texts from Latin to spread Christianity in
Britain. Furthermore, the conditions and the coexistence of various translation techniques and approaches as well as the most eminent Old and Middle English translations and their authors are discussed to provide a general picture of the state of the first translations between the 7th-14th centuries.
